A nationwide protest is planned for April 5, including 55 locations in Michigan, to protest President Donald Trump, billionaire Elon Musk, and recent policy actions such as closing Social Security offices and firing federal employees in Michigan.

What’s the purpose of the Hands Off protest?

Organizers claim Trump and Musk are planning a “all-out assault on our government, economy, and basic rights.” They accuse the administration of handing billionaires trillions of dollars, gutting worker protections, and undermining communities and people’s rights, including immigrants, transgender people, and political opponents.

When are the protests?

The nationwide protest will be held on Saturday, April 5, according to the organization’s website.

Who’s organizing the Hands-Off rallies?

As of Tuesday afternoon, over 950 protests were taking place across the country, organized by a coalition of over 150 grassroots organizations, progressive groups, and nonprofits.

The group encourages participants to be nonviolent.

“We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values,” the organization’s website states.
