According to the Montgomery County Police Department, a 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a woman’s kidnapping on Friday in Bethesda.
According to police, Robert Deeter of Bethesda is accused of kidnapping, first-degree assault, stalking, harassment, and multiple handgun charges.
According to police, officers received reports of a kidnapping around 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
Officers spotted Deeter’s red Toyota RAV4 with a woman in the passenger seat in the 7000 block of Democracy Boulevard and started following him.
According to police, the woman jumped out of the car as they approached Rockledge Drive and Interstate 270, where she told officers that Deeter had kidnapped her at gunpoint.
The woman added that she knew him prior to the kidnapping.
Officers followed the car to Old Georgetown Road and Beech Avenue, where Deeter refused to exit and barricaded himself inside.
Police say the Emergency Response Team (ERT) negotiators began speaking with the suspect, who eventually surrendered. The man was arrested, and a firearm was taken from the car.
Deeter remains in custody without bond.
