A MAN was burned to death by an angry mob after being arrested in Ecuador, according to reports.
According to local media, the furious group lynched the man, who is believed to be British, after storming the police station where he was being held.
He was arrested by locals after being suspected of killing another person, according to reports.
However, after only a few hours in detention, locals allegedly forced their way into the building and set fire to the man in front of cops.
The horrific killing occurred in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve in Ecuador’s Amazon region, a popular tourist destination, according to major Ecuadorian newspaper Ecuavisa.
According to Extra, officers chose not to intervene to defend the man from the mob.
A local TV station reported: “In the early hours of Sunday, April 20, in the parish of Playas de Cuyabeno, at the conclusion of an event commemorating the Kichwa community’s anniversary, an incident occurred that resulted in the deaths of two people.
“Those two people were a community member from the area and another person of British nationality who died due to the severity of his burns.”
The Ecuadorian man killed has been identified locally as Rodrigo Chavez.
It was not immediately clear whether anyone had been arrested following the horrific reported lynching.
