First person available' Patient chokes nurse after hospital release took too long, cops say

A patient at a Kentucky hospital became enraged because the discharge process was taking too long and allegedly choked a nurse.

Mykeisha Johnson, 35, was a patient on the third floor of the University of Louisville Hospital who was scheduled to be discharged on Saturday when she allegedly became frustrated with how long the process was taking. Johnson pounced on a nurse who was passing by her room at the time.

According to a police report obtained by local Fox affiliate WDRB, surveillance video captured Johnson choke the nurse, slam her to the floor, and repeatedly punch her in the face. Staff eventually removed Johnson from the nurse.

Johnson reportedly stated that the nurse had nothing to do with her long wait, but she was “the first person available.” The nurse went to the emergency room because she was experiencing pain in her neck, back of head, leg, abdomen, and shoulder. Although she did not lose consciousness during the attack, she stated that she was “in shock and didn’t remember everything,” according to the affidavit.

The hospital issued the following statement to the local media outlets:

“UofL Health will not tolerate violence or abuse against its employees, patients, or visitors. The LMPD has made an arrest and is conducting the investigation. “Our employee was treated and released.”

Instead of waiting to be discharged from the hospital, Johnson must now post bond to be released from jail. According to court records, she faces charges of assaulting a health care provider, wanton endangerment, and menacing. As of Tuesday afternoon, she was still in the Jefferson County Jail.

A judge added the wanton charge during a Monday hearing, according to WDRB.
