A Florida woman’s medical license was suspended months after being accused of sexually abusing her 15-year-old stepson.
Alexis Von Yates, 34, of Ocala, was arrested on Nov. 6, 2024, after allegedly engaging in “unlawful sexual activity” with her teenage stepson — who was visiting his father for the summer in Florida — in July 2024, according to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
The document stated that the couple allegedly had sex without using a condom, and that police received “an anonymous tip” about the alleged sexual activity on July 30, 2024. The tip “included information that the [alleged] child victim’s father had walked in on the incident,” according to the affidavit.
According to the Florida Department of Health’s online license verification records, Yates, a registered nurse, has had her single-state license suspended due to an Emergency Suspension Order filed on Friday, April 25. The records showed that her license was issued in January 2016.
“Nurses are placed in a position of trust; therefore, it is imperative that they demonstrate good judgment and moral character,” the state’s order stated, according to Ocala-news.com.
“Ms. Yates’ decision to [allegedly] engage in sexual activity with a minor child and/or her decision to allow a child to engage her in oral and penetrative sex indicates that she lacks the good judgment and moral character necessary to be a registered nurse,” according to the newscaster.
According to the publication, a proceeding seeking the “formal discipline” of the suspect’s license will be “promptly instituted and acted upon” by the state shortly. The outlet also stated that Yates could file a petition for review.
PEOPLE contacted the Florida Department of Health for more information, but they did not respond immediately.
According to online Marion County Clerk of Court and Comptroller’s Office records, Yates is charged with sexual battery on a person aged 12 to 18 by someone in familial custody. On December 10, Ocala-news.com reported that her attorney pleaded not guilty to the charge on her behalf in Marion County’s Fifth Judicial Circuit Court.
Online According to records from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Yates was released on November 7, 2024, after posting a $10,000 bond.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, Yates and the alleged child victim were “relaxing” and “playing a video game” together on the evening of the alleged abuse before they “decided to watch a movie.”
According to the affidavit, the suspect spoke to the teenager about how “horny” she was, claiming “she had not had sex in two weeks.”
“He recalled that the suspect had been making sexual jokes for approximately a week leading up to this incident, continuously saying how ‘horny’ she was,” according to the record.
According to the affidavit, after the alleged abuse began, the suspect stated, “Ah man, I wish you were 18, because you are not old enough.” The affidavit states that the alleged victim and suspect had sex on the couch.
According to the affidavit, when confronted by the child’s father, the suspect stated that his son looked exactly like him “when he was younger,” which the alleged child victim overheard.
In the arrest affidavit, the alleged child victim stated that the suspect had stuck her tongue out at him while eating whipped cream in the week preceding the alleged abuse, as well as that the two went to the gym together before she allegedly said, “I bet everyone thought you were my little toy boy.”
The documents also stated that the teenager called the suspect after his father drove him to his grandparents’ house following the incident. She allegedly told the teen that she wished his father “had not caught them.”
PEOPLE contacted the Florida Department of Health, the Marion County Clerk of Court and Comptroller’s Office, and a law firm representing Yates, but none of them responded immediately.
