RONCEVERTE – Candidates for mayor gathered Tuesday evening at the Ronceverte Fire Station for a community discussion to discuss critical issues affecting the city. The event allowed citizens to hear directly from the candidates running for mayor in the next election. The West Virginia Daily News hosted this event.
The candidates for the upcoming mayoral seat include incumbent Deena Pack, Kimberly “Kim” Erskine, Shawn Honaker, and David Withrow.
In a moderated discussion, incumbent Mayor Deena Pack was joined by opponents David Withrow, Kimberly Erksine, and Shawn Honaker. Pack is running for re-election.
The forum addressed a wide range of issues, including economic development, infrastructure upgrades, and public safety.
Pack underlined her administration’s initiatives to rebuild downtown Ronceverte and attract new businesses. “We have worked hard to create an environment where businesses can thrive,” she told the crowd. “Our downtown is seeing new life, and we are just getting started.”
Withrow, a small business owner, prioritized budgetary responsibility and community engagement. “It is time for a fresh perspective,” he said. “I believe in transparency and making decisions that reflect the will of the people.”
Much was spoken about Ronceverte’s potholes and the city’s current water project. Several residents attended the event, which included a Q&A session after the candidates’ comments. Those who were unable to attend in person could watch the event live online.
The mayoral election is scheduled for June 3, 2025. Early voting starts on May 20.
