Angie Harmon is revealing an important addition to her life.
On April 28, the Law & Order alum shared an Instagram photo of herself lying beneath a cute black-and-white dog.
“Just me, my dog, and the realization that I have been demoted from human to furniture.” “Happy Monday, Y’all,” Harmon, 52, captioned the adorable photo.
Harmon tells PEOPLE that the puppy in the picture is her new dog, Lucy.
The photo post comes just over a year after the tragic death of her dog Oliver, who was shot and killed by an Instacart delivery driver on March 30, 2024.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s investigation, the delivery person, Christopher Anthoney Reid, claimed that he dropped off food on Easter Sunday 2024 and then “the dog attacked him and that he defended himself by firing a single gunshot, striking and mortally wounding the dog,” according to the police statement.
Harmon, who was in her home at the time, told PEOPLE in May 2024 that she went to the door after hearing the shot and found Oliver bleeding and Reid saying, “Yeah, I shot your dog.” “I shot him.
Harmon says she and her daughters rushed the injured German shepherd and beagle mix to an emergency veterinarian, who attempted to revive the dog but was unable to save Oliver.
“I simply could not breathe. On the day Oliver died, Harmon said, “I could not get up, I could not do anything, and I could not help him no matter how hard I tried. “When I went in there, they were performing CPR on him for 7 to 13 minutes. And then everything became extremely still. “There I was, watching him covered in blood.”
Harmon and her three daughters, Finley, 21, Avery, 19, and Emery, 16, were devastated by Oliver’s death. It left the Rizzoli and Isles actress wondering when she would be ready for a new pet. Harmon had two dogs, Daisy and Benny, two cats, Hazel and Moose, and three squirrels, Oscar, Emmy, and Thomas, a girl who is now living in the wild.
According to Harmon’s representative, Lucy met the star through her daughter, Avery. The 19-year-old got the dog, which she and her sisters gave to Harmon as a Mother’s Day surprise in May 2024.
Harmon tells people. She was not sure if she was ready to love another dog after losing Oliver, but Lucy quickly calmed her fears and guided her through Oliver’s traumatic death.
“Lucy has changed my life. “She saved me,” Harmon tells PEOPLE exclusively. “She saved me from a really dark period in my life, and I love her so much.”
The actress claims that, despite Lucy’s recent Instagram debut, she “goes everywhere” with Harmon and provided much-needed comfort during Easter 2025.
“This past Easter was really hard because it was the one-year anniversary of losing Oliver—and it is still difficult—but I am so happy I have my family and all three of my dogs,” Harmon says, referring to her other two dogs.
“Truly, Lucy saved me and enabled me to love and feel again. “She is become an emotional support for me,” she adds.
Harmon sued Instacart and Reid following Oliver’s death, alleging trespassing, conversion, negligence, negligent supervision/hiring, invasion of privacy, and negligent misrepresentation, seeking more than $25,000 in damages.
However, the exact amount will be decided at a later date. According to court documents, the case is still being litigated, with an arbitration hearing scheduled for May 20.
In April 2024, Instacart told PEOPLE that they had suspended the shopper from the platform and were working with local law enforcement on the investigation.
