Fort Chiswell defeats Giles twice

The Fort Chiswell Pioneer Softball and Baseball Teams went to Giles County on Wednesday and won two games.

Blair Jackson’s 18 Spartan strikeouts helped the girls win 4-1 in a low-scoring game. FC’s senior right-hander has recently surpassed 600 carrier strikeouts and is on track to reach 700. Jackson allowed just two hits, one run, and two walks.

FC was led by Payton Nester at the plate, who had three hits. Jackson contributed two hits and an RBI, while Lilly Goforth, Annalees Kuehl, and Jenna Ball all drove in runs for the Fort.

Vanderpool led Giles on both the mound and at the plate, striking out nine Pioneers and finishing with one hit and one RBI.
The Boys Game was very different, with a lot of hitting and scoring as the Pioneers improved their overall record to 11-2 with a 14-3 win over the Spartans.

In the first inning, Owen Jackson led off with an RBI single to left, followed by a two-run home run by Brayden Billings to make the score 3-0. Giles would later tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the second inning with walks, an error, and a Skyler Keffer single.

However, a double by FC’s Spencer Moser gave the visitors a 5-3 lead in the top of the third, setting the stage for a Pioneer ambush as Parker Moore and Owen Jackson both singled, scoring two runs each.

Moore led FC with three hits and three RBIs. Jackson and Moser each had two hits and three RBIs, while Zayne Sayers and Brayden Billings had two hits for the winning team. Moser also earned the win on the mound for the Fort, coming on in relief and allowing only two hits, no runs, and eight strikeouts in five and two-third innings.

Shyler Keffer, Josiah Schlueter, Jacob Mills, Miles Eppling, and Brady Thwaites all had hits to propel Giles forward.
