Washington – Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s belongings were stolen over the weekend from a restaurant in Washington, D.C., including her passport, driver’s licence, keys, and government access badge.

The Secret Service and DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin confirmed the April 20 incident to USA TODAY.

McLaughlin told NewsNation that Noem’s purse held $3,000 in cash and blank checks.

CNN reported that Noem’s medication and makeup bag had also been stolen.

McLaughlin told USA TODAY that Noem’s entire family was in town, including her children and grandchildren, and that she was treating them to dinner, activities, and Easter presents.

The Secret Service has launched an investigation to “trace any use of Noem’s financial instruments,” according to CNN.

Prior to becoming Secretary of Homeland Security, Noem was the governor of South Dakota and a Republican member of Congress.
