Costco has surprised its customers with a refreshing new offering—Kirkland Signature bottled water from vending machines for just 25 cents. This low-price move has impressed many loyal shoppers, especially those grabbing the famous $1.50 hot dog combo at the food court.
But while the water deal is winning praise, a recent change to Kirkland diapers has left some parents unhappy, even threatening to cancel their memberships.
25-Cent Water Vending Machines Roll Out
Shoppers at many of Costco’s 600+ locations across the US have spotted new vending machines selling Kirkland Signature bottled water for just a quarter (25 cents). Costco, known for offering good quality at low prices, continues that tradition with this budget-friendly hydration option.
A long-time customer shared the news on Facebook, writing:
“I just learned there’s a 25¢ water vending machine in the Costco food court!”
Others quickly jumped in with praise:
“My go-to on hot days!”
“My kids love getting water from it.”
Costco’s rival, Sam’s Club, also offers 25-cent bottled water via vending machines with their Member’s Mark brand. Many shoppers say the machines at both stores are a great value.
Kirkland Signature: Costco’s Trusted In-House Brand
Kirkland Signature, launched in 1995, is Costco’s private label brand named after its original location in Kirkland, Washington. Today, Kirkland Signature offers everything from clothes and groceries to pet food and household essentials.
Its bottled water, now available through vending machines, is just one example of how the brand continues to offer affordable products without compromising on quality.
Diaper Controversy: Shoppers Are Not Happy
While the 25-cent water is winning hearts, a major change in Kirkland Signature diapers is causing trouble among members.
Earlier, these diapers were manufactured by Kimberly-Clark, the company behind premium diaper brand Huggies. But in late 2023, Kimberly-Clark CEO Mike Hsu announced the company would stop supplying Costco, choosing to focus on its own products.
Costco then partnered with First Quality, a personal care manufacturer, to continue making the diapers under the Kirkland brand. However, customers quickly noticed a difference in quality.
One mom and TikToker, Mel (@lifewithh_mel), shared her honest review, saying:
“This is really upsetting — right away I can tell the difference… it’s so cheap and paper thin.”
Others commented that they’re switching to Sam’s Club or cancelling their Costco memberships because of the change.
Costco has not officially responded to these complaints.
Another Price Change May Be Coming
Costco’s beloved $1.50 hot dog combo—which has stayed the same price for decades—might also face a price hike. Reports suggest it could increase to $4.55 depending on upcoming decisions from the company.
Costco continues to offer great value with options like 25-cent bottled water from vending machines, a hit among food court fans. However, recent changes in Kirkland Signature diapers have upset many shoppers. With more changes possibly on the way—including a price hike for the famous hot dog combo—members are keeping a close eye on what’s next. Costco’s challenge will be balancing its reputation for quality and affordability as it responds to changing suppliers and rising costs.
