ALDERSON, West Virginia — On Saturday, May 3, fifteen musicians showed up at the Alderson Train Depot to kick off the fourth season of Open Mic at the Depot. Tapping their feet and clapping their hands, the enthusiastic audience welcomed them warmly.
Open Mic at the Depot, sponsored by Alderson Main Street, is part of the season’s “Trains and Tunes” event, which takes place on the first Saturday of each month from May to September.
The historic C&O Depot, built in 1896, is open for tours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with an Open Mic portion from 4 to 7 p.m. Musicians and audience sit in the old baggage area, which is complete with antique baggage carts, tools, and other memorabilia. Spillover seating is available on the platform, with tables, chairs, and canopies.
According to event organizer Marcia Sutherland, “It’s great to welcome everyone back from the winter break, and we look forward to seeing new faces and hearing new music”. Several musicians performed original songs as well as traditional favorites.
